Mayor Villaraigosa Is An Asshole!

OK...so...six LAUSD school board members, with the backing of Mayor Villaraigosa voted to, in the name of "reform", sell 250 L.A. schools to the highest "non-profit" bidders. Wouldn't real reform be addressing the problems within LAUSD itself to allow it to do the job its supposed to do? Would that be too difficult? Or expensive? Would it entail completely changing the political culture of corruption in this city? Villaraigosa prefers things status quo, so his friends, family members, and financial backers can keep their jobs. What gets me most is that he calls this "change", a la Obama style. And the people of L.A. believe him, or maybe they just don't care. Anyways, throwing nickels and dimes to fix a very expensive (and essential, as this is the education of L.A.'s future generations we're talking about here) problem, and in so doing shifting responsibility for fixing the problem elsewhere, seems more Villaraigosa and the school board's style.

As an addendum, isn't this what Republicans have been trying to do in this city for years? Last time I checked Villaraigosa was a Democrat! Shouldn't he be switching parties? It just boggles my mind.

Thanks for your comment "Anonymous"!

I don't think cheating on his wife with a TV anchorwoman who looks almost exactly like his wife, then leaving her in turn for another TV anchorwoman who looks almost exactly like his wife makes Villaraigosa an asshole, maybe a candidate for therapy, but it doesn't make him an asshole. Lots of people leave their significant others for lots of different reasons and that doesn't necessarily make them all assholes. I would prefer not to see this kind of behavior in a public servant, but public servants are people too, even if they would like to see themselves as being above other people. Villaraigosa is imperfect in the relationship department, and I can't fault him that (as much as I'd like to).

Also, before you go on a tangent about the Mayor's jaunt at the topless Vegas swimming pool, lots of important legislation, both Democratic and Republican, have been hashed out at strip clubs, massage parlors, and nude pool patios, so don't go there. No joke.

What makes me come to the conclusion that Mayor Villaraigosa is an asshole is that he supports giving to the private sector a responsibility that should clearly be the government's.

What upsets me is that the Mayor would rather reward his donors with financial favors than spend money fixing the state's educational system.

I've asked the Mayor this before, why is it that in a financial crisis its always the poor and uneducated who suffer the most? Why can't Villaraigosa, city council members, city attorney, and school board members make personal sacrifices to make sure our children are educated?

I believe it is a fact that an uneducated public ensures Villaraigosa can continue on with the status quo with minimal opposition. The benefit of an uneducated public to the status quo is worth more than its weight in gold.

A government that can let things get so bad with its own citizens should be ashamed of itself. Villaraigosa should step down out of respect to the city and let someone who is truly selfless take the reigns. Los Angeles is the laughing stock of intelligent citizens of much more intelligent cities than ours.

I Agree.

Not just "uneducated" but totally apathetic and indifferent. Does the Mayor really do any work? Who's to know?

With regards to putting LAUSD Schools up for bid. Just "nonprofits"? Isn't Villar...'s "partnership for schools" being run by a for profit organization headed by former investment banker Marshall Tuck?

Just another way to "privatize" public property.
