Dead Sea Scrolls - Live At Nova Express

Last Wednesday my solo project Dead Sea Scrolls played at the Nova Express Cafe in Los Angeles and my friend Myke Weiskopf was kind enough to record it.

This song is entitled 'I Can See You In The Dark'. The studio version will appear on the upcoming Dead Sea Scrolls album to be released later this year.

For more info on Dead Sea Scrolls check out the Dead Sea Scrolls Myspace page.

Dead Sea Scrolls will be playing the last night of their February residency at the Nova Express Cafe this coming Wednesday, February 27th, at 9pm. Its a free show, so if you're in town please come by and say hello.

BTW, everyone should check out Myke Weiskopf's blog shortwavemusic, an intriguing and mysterious blend of shortwave radio frequency recordings that never cease to fascinate me.

Spain 'Every Time I Try' Video (1997)

Spain 'Every Time I Try' video (1997) directed by Wim Wenders (from his film 'The End Of Violence').

When Wim Wenders approached us to write a song for his film, he wanted to put us out of our element and see how we would sound writing an electronica song. He didn't like what we submitted and so asked me to write a song with more of a Spain-vibe and, with one day before the deadline, this is what I came up with.

Wim Wenders filmed this video with us at a San Fernando Valley soundstage around the time the movie was released, if I remember correctly. The video is included with the DVD, buy or rent a copy if you're interested, its a great film.

Haden Family Album - From USA Today

Jazz, country stars join Haden's family

Charlie Haden brings together jazz and country for an album due from Decca Records in July. Ricky Skaggs, Bruce Hornsby, Vince Gill, Pat Metheny, Béla Fleck and others joined the Grammy-winning bassist in January for sessions at Skaggs' studio.

"We did some Stanley Brothers songs, some Carter Family songs, some things I used to do with my family when I was just a little kid," says Haden, who was in a country-gospel group called the Haden Family before becoming a jazz musician. "We did a lot of songs that weren't necessarily country, but it's all about when I was a kid and my family and the people I played music with."

The sessions involved Haden's wife, Ruth; his son, Josh; and triplets Petra, Tanya and Rachel, each of whom has a music career.

"My kids have been involved in music since they were 3 and 4," Haden says. "I really wanted to do a record with all of them, where they could be the Haden Family again."

Nate & Ramona's Wedding

My good friend Nate got married over the weekend. Congrats Nate!

I was one of Nate's groomsmen and attended the wedding rehearsal dinner Friday night at Dar Maghreb.

Dar Maghreb is a Hollywood landmark restaurant which is patterned closely after a 15th Century Moroccan Palace.

The food is great, each table gets big plates and everyone eats with their hands.

There's belly dancers and daredevil tea-pourers.

My band Spain performed at the wedding reception Saturday night.

I rarely get to play dressed in a tux and bow tie. Maybe I should do it more often.

Everyone was looking quite spiffy.

Much happiness to you both, Nate and Ramona!

Happy Super Tuesday!

Happy Super Tuesday everybody!

That is, if you live in Alabama, Alaska, American Samoa, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Utah, and/or West Virginia, happy voting!

And remember, there is an equally compelling argument against voting: Act Responsibly: Don’t Vote!

While you vote listen to this episode of "Mr. President" from 1947, and see if you can guess which president they're portraying!

Let's all hope our votes are counted!
