Gov. Schwarzenegger & California Republican Lawmakers Are Unpatriotic; In Addition, They Hate America And Everything It Stands For

With the final decision in California today to send out IOUs instead of checks to everyone from state workers to students receiving financial aid, I wonder to myself, where is Gov. Schwarzenegger's sense of personal sacrifice? Why isn't he giving up his salary to help the state get out of debt.

A few days ago I received a comment from "Anonymous" to one of my blog postings which read, in part,

"Schwarznegger (sic) inherited a huge deficet (sic). He was making progress - without raising taxes - until the recession hit. But I know, this is making you angry."

I think the commenter is assuming that I think raising taxes is a bad thing. My response to him, which I'll paraphrase here, is if you truly loved your country, wouldn't you want to support it monetarily? Wouldn't you want to pay your dues? Surely you don't expect to live in the greatest country in the world, reaping the benefits you reap, and not give something back?

It is irresponsible for Gov. Schwarzenegger and his Republican friends to try to balance the state budget by gutting essential programs but not by raising taxes. Not even trying to compromise with Democrats. Not only is it irresponsible, its unpatriotic.

Kudos to the Democrats for having the backbone to not cave in to the Republicans and their spiteful and selfish demands. Republican lawmakers see an opportunity to pass legislation they would never in normal circumstances have any chance of passing, and being the opportunistic cowards they are, they are taking this opportunity at the worst time, the middle of the worst financial crisis in California in over a decade.

If California Republican lawmakers don't want to support their government why don't they try moving somewhere else! Let our state get back on track!

I am generally sympathetic to your opinion, but you should know that Schwarzenegger doesn't take a salary from the State of California.

Thanks CIBR! I stand corrected!

That was quite a magnanimous gesture on Gov. Schwarzenegger's part! You'd think he'd publicize it more!

He said: "if you truly loved your country, wouldn't you want to support it monetarily?"

We already pay a lot of taxes - how much is your paycheck taxed? Do we really want to give more hard-earned cash to a system that is already bankrupt?

You are a proponent of raising taxes. Giving more money to the government, as mismanaged as it is.

Maybe Obama will use more of your hard-earned tax dollars to reward the failure of banks, the auto industry, real estate moguls, insurance kingpins and Wall St.

California's situation is not unique - all accross the nation states are hurting and taking drastic measures. Don't blame the governor for everything.

And remember - not everyone, even on your own blog, will always agree you. Get over it and don't take it so personally.

Thanks for the comment "Anonymous"!

Not sure why you think I'm taking things personally. Sure you're not projecting?

I welcome all kinds of responses to my blog entries, be they supportive or critical, for or against, I appreciate all of them, and I've said so in other posts. Perhaps you didn't get a chance to read them? But that is understandable.

I support my government through thick and thin, even when I don't agree with it. I may voice my concerns, but that doesn't mean I'll ever stop supporting it from the one place that matters: my wallet.

I didn't support the illegal war in Iraq (soon to be former war, I suppose), but that doesn't mean I didn't pay my taxes happily and on time.

You seem to think the American system of government is currently bankrupt and doesn't deserve our monetary support. You write "We already pay a lot of taxes." I think that is an arguable point.

Are you suggesting that if our system ceased to become bankrupt and mismanaged then you would support raising taxes?

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I, being a proud American, support my country, bankrupt and mismanaged or not.

Maybe Obama will use more of my hard-earned tax dollars to reward the failure of banks, the auto industry, real estate moguls, insurance kingpins and Wall St. Maybe he won't.

I do know for certain that the patriotic Halliburton Co. took my hard-earned tax dollars and shoved it in their own pockets while nobody was looking, and deposited some into their Swiss bank accounts as well. Not only my hard-earned tax dollars, but yours too, while delivering substandard assistance to our men and women in uniform. And not a peep from former Chairman Cheney!

I do blame Schwarzenegger for all of my state's current financial crisis, and I'll tell you why. It is a courageous Captain who goes down with his ship while its sinking. First he makes sure everyone makes it off ok.

Schwarzenegger is the Captain of California, he is the overseer, the Commander In Chief, and whatever goes wrong under his watch he needs to take responsibility for instead of blaming on the one hand the Democrats, accusing them of causing California's woes by not playing ball with the Republicans, and on the other hand, the voters who elected him, who just want him to do his job and watch him not pick sides.

Thanks again for your comment, "Anonymous"! I do appreciate it, even if you don't agree with me! Even if you say your cash is hard-earned and I don't even know who you are, I don't know what you do for a living, if you in actuality work hard or not, if you are an American (proud or not) or if you are like the other "Anonymous" who posts on my blog, another hard-worker who lives in a third-world country, outsourced as cheap labor by the Republican party (or maybe the health insurance industry) to leave anonymous comments on the blogs of liberal Democrats like me!

Have a great day, or evening as it may be wherever you are, and please feel free to respond and/or comment on any of my blog entries past, present, or future, I thank you for your support!!
